The Eolic Transducer

A musical instrument made of bamboo, electronically and pneumatically controlled, created by me in 2005.

It all started as a dream

In 1998 I had a dream, in which I controlled a brass section from a grand piano. The sensation was so powerful, the music so sublime, and the emotion so unbridled that I decided to set out and make that machine come true. The end result was not exactly what I expected, but the flexibility of research in art allowed experimenting with various approaches until arriving at this unique instrument in the world, which I called The Eolic Transducer.

Many things have happened around this instrument, it has been used for music in some films, concerts, and various recordings. One of the most important cultural products around it is the edition of the album Correspondances, published by the Belgian label Sub Rosa, and in which my dear friends and musicians Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon) and Manrico Montero collaborated.

The instrument was also used for some parts of the soundtrack of the film El Informe Toledo, by the director Alvino Álvarez. The Eolic Transducer was completed in 2005 thanks to a grant of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts of Mexico.

You can listen here to the Sub Rosa record in which the Eolic Transducer is the core. The below player is inside Spotify but you can also find the record on any streaming platform.
